“Wonderfully Expressive”

For over a decade, Erin Bennett Banks has been illustrating for children’s books and juvenile markets. Using signature angular brushmarks and rich palette of bright oils, Banks created a narrative style that has earned recognition by New York Times “Best Children’s Books 2005,” School Library Journal’s “Hot Reads 2006” and Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights.

Banks specializes in African-themed stories and multicultural imagery. Her illustrations have been described as “extremely stylized pictures that don’t prettify their subjects” (Booklist); “wonderfully expressive” (School Library Journal) and possessing a richly toned style which “resembles woodcuts in the use of line and contrast making them a wonderful match to the story” (Library Media Connection).
